Whilst Iron Man, motivated by guilt over his actions that prompted Age of Ultron, is all for the act, Captain America is not. An Analysis of Captain America: Civil War Trailer 2

Recap and analysis, Part One

cdm99agxeaaays5-1-173531

Marvel Studios’ long awaited Phase 3 is about to begin in a little over a month and a half, with *drumrolls* Captain America: Civil War! The sequel to The Winter Soldier and the third instalment in the Captain America franchise, the directorial team of Anthony and Joe Russo return, along with the screenwriting team of Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. A trailer just dropped a little over a day ago and so we’ve decided to to analyse and speculate on the new material we’ve been given – and there’s a fair amount of it.

A refresher of Civil War: It’s been one year since the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, and another international incident involving the Avengers resulting in collateral damage occurs. Politicians lobby for a set of accords to bind and regulate the Avengers’ activities and to install a system of accountability. But when his best friend, is framed for the incident and caught in the crossfire, Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America takes up his shield against the surprising supporter of the legislation, Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man. Avengers new and old fracture into two factions – one led by Rogers, who after the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier is done with governmental oversight, and one by Stark, who, motivated by guilt from the fallout of Age of Ultron, supports the act. And, predictably, the world is threatened by a new enemy.

In this trailer not only do we get some glorious shots of the two factions, but we also get to see some of the two most anticipated new characters of the MCU in action, and they are amazing! That’s right, Black Panther and our Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man have entered the building.

Spider-Man’s levity will definite be needed in this film, because judging from the trailer, the Russo brother do NOT hold back. Now, shall we begin?

Back From the Dead: The Amazing…Venom?

Back before The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Sony had closed a deal with Marvel Studios to share the rights to Spider-Man, allowing for the Webhead to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there were talks of making a expansive cinematic universe centred around Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man to compete with the MCU. Aside from making more Spider-Man titles, there were also plans to create a Sinister Six and Venom film.

Unfortunately with the lukewarm reception to TASM2, any such plans seemed like they had just gone down the drain, and a hack of Sony Entertainment in 2014 revealed that Sony and Marvel Studios were in talks to have Spider-Man appear in the upcoming film, Captain America: Civil War. Whilst the talks seemed to have stalled, the deal ended up getting closed, with Sony Pictures continuing to have final creative control over the Spider-Man films, but allowing for the new, uncast Spider-Man and other Spider-Man related characters to be able to appear in the MCU. Some months later, British actor Tom Holland was cast in the role. Sony’s dreams of a cinematic universe to rival the MCU, it seemed, were down the drain.

Marvel Comics: Civil War 2

Many of you, comic fans and not, will have heard of the upcoming blockbuster film Captain America: Civil War, releasing May 6th this year. What you may not know is that the same month that the film is releasing, Marvel Comics is releasing a sequel series called Civil War II. The synopsis reads:

“A mysterious new Marvel character comes to the attention of the world, one who has the power to calculate the outcome of future events with a high degree of accuracy. This predictive power divides the Marvel heroes on how best to capitalize on this aggregated information, with Captain Marvel leading the charge to profile future crimes and attacks before they occur, and Iron Man adopting the position that the punishment cannot come before the crime.”

Superhero Movies 2016: What to expect

It’s a great time to be a comic book fan. Since comic book derived media proved themselves to be lucrative at the turn of the century, the genre has seen an explosion onto both the big and small screens, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe by Marvel Studios, the DC Extended Universe being launched by Warner Bros. and the X-Men franchise from 20th Century Fox. This year, there’s a grand total of six – yes, SIX – superhero movies coming out next year. Here’s what they’re about and what you can expect in some rough detail.
